vintage aeroplane garland

One thing I found, whilst having a clear out at the beginning of the month, was a little bag of felt planes.

I had cut these out months ago but somehow they just ended up being put at the back of the cupboard and forgotten about.

Well last night, I finally got myself into sewing moad and pushed them through the sewing machine. Making garlands or bunting, in this way, has seriously got to be one of the most satisfying crafts! There is something so rewarding about the end product and yet it is so simple.

There are some great tutorials over on Pinterest for felt garlands, including this one but you basically cut out your felt shapes (planes, hearts, circles, triangles, anything you fancy), sew your first shape down the middle and, once you get to the end, add a second and so on until all your pieces have been threaded through the machine. Leave some thread at each end for making a loop to hang.

It's a great first sewing project but is equally incredibly therapeutic (well I think so anyhow).

For an alternative, you could try using paper and would be a great craft for using up all those scraps.

  1. These are adorable. I'm thinking of making something similar to decorate for Valentines day.

  2. Thank you. The heart ones are super cute :)
